Joseph asks…
Awkward Situation with a Girl. What to do now?
I’ve known this girl for a year, and each second I feel absolutely in love with her. I first met her in the beginning of 8th Grade, in my History Class. I didn’t have the courage to go up to her and introduce myself, ask her name, small talk and all that, and when I did want to do so, she was always with her group of girl friends, and so it would have been incredibly awkward for me to approach her. By the first month of school, being in the same history and french class, we’d gotten to known each other as somewhat acquaintances, more closer through the whole group of friends, opposed to each other. By this time I knew more and more about her, making my love for her grow stronger and stronger. Cute, sweet, pretty, funny, fun to be around, angelic voice, bubbly laugh. I couldn’t stand not even having gotten past the acquaintance stage. I didn’t want this to get into anything too extreme, I’m not that kind of person, but just the typical hey there, how are you, let’s hang out here sort of friend thing. My dream of course was that just maybe we’d be bf and gf, but to do the normal holding hands, hanging out, calling each other thing. So, about 2 months past, I did something so stupid, I’ll never forgive myself for it. I sent her a secret love note, signed anonymous. I placed it on her desk, not knowing where her desk was, hoping she was the first to receive it. Unfortunately, my friend found it first, jokingly stating it to be a love letter. When she opened it, not only was he uncomfortable, but people had begun to expect me of it, for it was a poem, and I was know as being somewhat poetic. The smart thing to do would have been to stop, but my heart wouldn’t let me. I made more notes, people thinking more and more it was me. There came a dance party round the end of October. I went, danced like crazy to the request of my friends, telling myself the whole night I’d tell the girl it was me who wrote the notes, never getting the chance because of her group of friends. Finally, at the end of the night, I was alone on the sidewalk, waiting to be brought home, when whom else but her walks up to the same area. She says “Hey” and added I was a really good dance. I said Thanks, and being as nervous as I was, I wanted to get my admittance right out of the way, whispered in her ear I was the one who wrote the notes, and ran to my car. I heard her giggling behind me saying she knew. Couple months went past, not much happening, me constantly thinking about her. It was the last day of school before Winter break, when all of the band kids would perform in the Winter Concert. She was one of them. All the performers were dressed up, ties and skirts and all. Our last class before it was French, the environment was really loose and fun, guys joking about how they couldn’t get their ties on and stuff, the perfect mood. I sat down in a desk when, for the first time all year, she sat next to me. I didn’t say anything, but I saw her, and she was beautiful. In a white buttoned shirt, long black socks. i stared at her from time to time, and even thought she stared back. i just knew then as soon as class was over, I’d tell her just how beautiful she looked. When I was about too, all the band kids got up at once, and I was trapped. I waited all the way til the end of school, just as I saw her, she drove away in her car, me without saying a word. I had the worst feeling in my life, absolute heartache. The year went on, February came around, the month of Valentine’s Day, my birthday, as well as hers. I wanted to get her a gift, I had too. I didn’t want it to get weird thought, so I tried to get her some plush toys, typical friend gifts which is all I really wanted to be, her friend. It came to her the wrong way. She said she really appreciated it, but she couldn’t accept and all that. She thought of me as a friend and all, she also asked if I could stop following her and that it made her uncomfortable. I told her I meant it as a friendly gift an I only followed her to try to give the gift. She said oh, of course we’re friend : )
and all that, but I knew that no matter what there would still be that feeling of awkwardness between us. March came round where our French class flew to France, the perfect chance I had to talk to her on the plane. I did, I had casual chats with her, there were also good chats and times in France, but what hurt the most for me was the most popular kid in our class, my friend, sat with her during one of the plane rides, making her smile and laugh the whole way through. i cried in the plane bathroom it hurt so much. The eventually came to a close, she spend more time with other guys, us never having the chance to be that close. Next year we’ll both be in 9th Grade, freshmen. My final question is what I should do next, continue to pursue? Give up? Come straight out and tell her how I feel? Move on? Sorry this dragged on so long, really appreciate a straight answer.
Men and Women’s answers are both appreciated. I’m a straight guy.

Helen asks…
How should I start this vampire story?
No, I am not copying Twilight. My book is about a vampire girl named Julietta. She falls in love with Vampire fanatic and Video game store worker Hal. He is a hot british geek! She is very sweet, and dosn’t know she is sexy. Like in one scene I imagine Julietta being scared of the dark and running in to Hals room and crawling in bed with him. Hal laughes at the fact she is a vampire who is scared of the dark! Anyway, Julietta often “kisses” (sucks the blood out of” many of Hal’s geeky friends and fellow workers (not killing them just weakening)
She is getting better about just taming herself with raw meats, chicken, and fish!
I can’t keep my characters in my head you guys, seriously! I either have to stuff them into another annoying plush toy, or write about them.
I do this for my sanity.

I need some help coming up with a name for a craft business. Any creative people who could help!?
Hi, I posted something like this awhile ago but I don’t think I gave enough information. So, let’s try again. I have a few hobbies and I thought I would try to sell some of them online, like ebay or etsy and I need help thinking of a good name for my store.
I have mostly felt food, dress up dolls, and plush educational toys for kids(shapes, colors, etc.) but I also like making jewelry and would like to try to add that to the store also. And last but not least I always wanted to learn to make soap and candles. Now I know that this is kinda all over the place so it makes it harder. If you think it would be to hard to have it all together then just give me some ideas for the kid related stuff and I can do something later about the soap/candles/jewelry type stuff. Though some of the jewelry is kid based too, like a personalized flower pendant.
Would love a play on words or something that wouldn’t only have to be used for the kids stuff and is more general would be great. But any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance!
Some ideas I had were with “Creative Play” in the title or maybe a play on “felt” or “sew” but I am kinda lost at this point, I think I am over thinking it and that is why it is getting a little harder now.

how to make a very fun and interesting hamster cage????
i have a hamster who is more curios then my last ones and loves to explore, i have her in a aquarium with a will a little half eaten kleenex box she chewed ( still is a good home just has lots of doors), a wheel, a little tiny thing that has a clear green roof she can lie in a food bowl, water bottel,, and a chew stick, but is there a way i can make something for her to climb on and around like another floor or something? i have a screen top so she can’t get out the top,
also is there anything i can make that she won’t chew, she already has tried to eat: goggles, swim toys, stuff animals, a webkinz tag, concrete, rocks trees, blankets, carpets, leaves, tape , cardboard, and tape.
TS Staff Answers:
For a start, concrete, stuffed animals, rocks, blankets, trees, leaves and tape are all potentially dangerous. So don’t use those. Get down to a craft shop and buy some lolly sticks, stick together with non solvent PVA glue (as little as you can get away with) to make some climbing toys like ladders and stuff. You can also buy climbing toys and rope from pet stores. Chewing is perfectly normal behavior, and lolly sticks are cheap, so there’s no point in stopping her from chewing.

Linda asks…
Should people leave stuffed animals/balloons etc when a child dies?
It is a tragedy when a child dies as a result of murder. But is sort of bothers me, in these times of hardship, when people leave hundreds of stuffed animals, dolls, balloons, etc, at a makeshift memorial site.
I know they are doing it to honor the child, but wouldn’t it make more sense to take that same money, and buy toys/food/desperatedly needed supplies for a local children’s home, or take a couple of names off an Angel Tree and use that same money to buy them gifts, or just some food to feed an unemployed family? It just seems a waste of time and money, when there are children in great need.
I wonder what happens to the items that are left.
If I had a child that were to die, I would expect the people I know to come to the funeral and keep in touch with me – not for a bunch of strangers to leave toys. In fact, if I were in good enough shape to talk about it, I would request that people do not leave memorials but give it to charity instead.
So when people put in an obiturary, ‘In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Cancer Sociey (for example”) – should everyone ignore that too?
TS Staff Answers:
It’s their money and they can use it how they wish to remember and honor their loved ones.

Dog toys????????
OK, so some of u already know that I have 2 yellow labs. (a girl: Ruby, 5 yrs… and a boy: Buddy, 6 Mths.) and I can’t find a toy that will last more than a week! the girl (Ruby) feels like when she gets a toy, her job is to completely destroy it! and the boy (Buddy) is teething, so of course ANYTHING is food right now! I just can’t find any good toys, that r cheap (under $15), they play tug with their stuffed animals and rip them in a matter of seconds! (Literally! I have a pile of stuffed animals and other toys waiting to be sewed!) Help!!! I have tried kong (Ruby’s nose is so big, that when she tried to get the food out of it, it rubbed some of the skin off of her nose!) we give them rawhide on occasion, she eats the whole thing in minutes, we have a few toys that r good, I can’t remember the name though, they r from JB Wholesale catalog or something… please help!! I need something to keep them occupied for more than five minutes! Buddy even chewed a rope toy in half!
I have some nylabones, but Ruby doesn’t like them unless they taste good… and she still takes buddy’s and then he takes it back, and she just lays around bored all day! I feel so bad, we keep them seperated somr times but Buddy just wines!
TS Staff Answers:
Boy can I relate… Our shih tzu loves stuffed toys and she’s gone through quite a few. I recently found toys by GoDog and they are “chew proof” (so they claim). What I liked about these toys are if by chance your dog does manage to rip it or destroy it, you can return it to the manufacturer and get a new toy. Our shih tzu managed to get the ear off of one of her toys and I called the company. They were extremely nice and told me to mail it back to them as they like to see how the toy was damaged so they can continue to make their products better. Our shih tzu has several GoDog toys and has only managed to rip up one of them. I purchased these at Petsmart.

Sharon asks…
How can I get my ferret to stop chewing on furniture?
My pet ferret is about 4 months old, and I’ve only had him for around two or three weeks.
The first time I let him out of his cage, I let him frolic around in my living room, but he immediately went to chewing on the sides of my couches. The previous owners never said anything about this. I tried spraying the corners of the couch with bitter apple, but that didn’t work at all. I’ve also tried flicking his nose when he chews as well as caging him for 5 minutes immediately after he begins chewing, but nothing has worked.
I stopped putting him in the living room and began letting him out in my room, the chewing stopped for a few days.. But now he’s back to chewing on corners of whatever soft furniture he gets close to. He doesn’t chew on his hammock or the bedding in his cage.
He has plenty of stuffed animals and squeaky toys to play with, and I let him out for around 5 hours a day, but I don’t have a room in which I can let him play where there’s nothing for him to chew on.
Is there any way I can put an end to his endless chewing?
TS Staff Answers:
I have had this problem before! It is definitely annoying because your furniture gets destroyed! They chew on the corners of either and it’s really a pain in the butt. They won’t chew on their toys they only chew on the furniture and it is like what do I do??
I found that the only way to put an end to the endless chewing was to use a 12-gauge buckshot shell. You just take the ferret outback, or out in the wilderness if you live on less than an acre, and you put the ferret on the ground. You place one 12-gauge, (honestly I think you could get by with a 20 gauge), shell in the shotgun and then you aim at the ferret. When you have the barrel centered on the ferret, pull the trigger and all of the chewing issues will be solved. If you do it correctly, you will not have a mess to clean up.
Good luck!

Mark asks…
Toddler plays all night long?
My 2 year old daughter has always been a good sleeper. She has had a routine since she was an infant.
Dinner 5:30
Bath 6
Bedtime stories 6:30
Bed 7
She is up at 7 every day so she isn’t sleeping in late and she takes about an 1.5 nap every day.
Since age 1 she has been in a toddler bed and has done fine with it. We have had no issues up until now.
We still follow her normal routine and she is in bed by 7. The problem is she stays up all night playing. You can tell she is tired, but wont sleep. She will turn her light on, pull her night light out and you can hear her chatting away. There are no toys in her room and all her stuffed animals are in a hammock where she can’t reach. Luckily, she stays in her room so we don’t have to encounter the problem of her going out into the rest of the house and hurting herself. There really isn’t anything in there to entertain her, but yet she still stays awake. Eventually, she will fall asleep on the floor next to the door, and we then quietly go in and put her back into bed. This isn’t until very late though.
How do I get her to stop wandering around her room for hours and just go to sleep?
TS Staff Answers:
My son did something similar 6 months ago too. I finally tried putting him to bed an hour later, and I noticed he fell asleep faster that way. Otherwise, he’d start playing early and keep playing until very late like you said. Another thing you could try is removing or loosening the light-bulb so her light won’t turn on. Hopefully, this will make staying awake a little more boring and the light might be giving her body mixed signals about if it’s actually time to feel tired. It’ll probably make her attempts at playing more boring too. Good luck.

Donna asks…
some good guinea pig toys?
these are some GREAT guinea pig toys
1) A balled up piece of blank computer paper. (Anything colored may contain harmful dyes).
2) Empty toilet paper rolls or paper towel tubes. Many pigs love to gnaw on these, carry them around the cage, etc.
3) Same as number 2, but with a slit up the side and stuffed with hay.
4) Bird toys. Some like them to hang from their cages in various spots. Other guinea pigs prefer them laying on the floor of the cage so that they can pick them up and shake them all about.
5) Ping Pong balls, tennis balls, ferret balls (or cat balls that don’t have small parts that can be chewed through and swallowed). Some piggies enjoy nudging these around their cages.
6) Ferret hammocks and ferret sleeping bags. You can buy these any pet store that sells ferret supplies, or you can make your own.
7) Stuffed animals.
Empty old sock. Some cavies like to drag one around the cage with them.
9) Old sock stuffed with hay.
10) Large Chubes are fun for them to run through and chew.
11) Hidey Houses are great to run through and climb upon.
12) Pieces of PVC pipe for them to climb through, hide in, climb on, etc.
13) Large piles of hay to hide in, sleep in, and of course EAT!
14) Cinder blocks make great hiding places AND keep them cooler in the summer.
15) The largest size plastic Igloo (“Pigloos,” if you will) sold by pet stores.
16) Large “Fiddle Sticks” sold by pet stores make great hiding places.
17) Empty brown paper bags make great hiding places as well as something fun to chew on.
18) Empty cardboard boxes. Larger ones make great “houses,” and smaller ones filled with a few food pellets make great “rattles” for your piggie to toss about.
19) Cuddle Cups can be found at most pet stores and make great “beds” for your guinea pigs.
20) Mirrors. Some guinea pigs like to look at their own reflections.
21) Towels/blankets draped strategically around the cage can create fun “caverns” for them to hide/play in.
22) Wooden toys such as alphabet blocks, wooden spoons, etc.

Btw, I’m only 12. I need to stay on a $150 budget =]
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
TS Staff Answers:
How about cutting these gifts down to one gift each, they are all good ideas, but get each (1) gift only, like you mom-her magazines, your dad – the jacket instead jeans, your sister(20) a cute hoodie, your sister of (22)a set of dishes for her(you can a pretty set @Dollar General $15.00,sister’s finance’( I don’t believe its needed a gift Unless you wish to),but after the marriage yes, because then he will be part of the-family) or just get him T-shirt,for the baby – cute clothes you already have, for the dog -toys will be fine,I have a gift you; You can make it will cost about $15.00 for your mom& dad together! A “BOOK OF SMILES” for this you need wrapping paper for Christmas, scissors, glue, tape, markers, and pictures!(All kinds of pictures such as:funny ones, serious ones, people acting foolish, like water balloon fights, stuff like those kind of pictures, your past birthdays, past Christmases, you’re going to want anything in this book that when your mom&dad opens it up it will bring a smile to their face, and (1) to their hearts. On the inside cover put their names, date you made it ,Merry Christmas from you & or from all of you? That’s up to you;on the back(inside cover) put with all your love and put the date! Oh,I’m sorry you’re going to need a either a small, medium, or a large photograph album,(your chioce),cover the book with the Christmas wrapping paper, and tape it like you would if you putting a covering on school book; you can use the TO: &FROM : tags on the front of your book if you wish, you can write MERRY CHRISTMAS if you wish! In your book of smiles put pictures of things your dad lkes, and things your mom likes, you use stickers as well. These choices are up to you! Good Luck! If you decide to make your book! I made one for my mother, sister, daughter, and so far one of my sons!Merry Christmas to you also, remember Christmas isn’t just about giving gifts, but giving the love you have inside for each and everyone you care about! And that happens to be Jesus’ birthday as well, you forgot one while you were trying to figure out what to give to everyone! You forgot “Jesus” so for his birthday (you don’t have to do this but I try to do it every year) I make Jesus snow angels! (5) to be exact[1- for each of my children=4 + 1(for me) = (5). Lay down in the snow(be bundled up)on your back, move your arms +feet outward,go back to the postition of laying down and get someone to help you up, and when you look and see it looks like an angel ,I try to do it every year, but this year my younger son told he would help me back up! After I make my angels for Jesus’ birthday! I don’t have alot to offer Him so I give Him (5) angels made out of snow! These costs $0.00 !Its more fun to do this, with one or more other people! He blessed me with (4) angels (my children+ He blessed me with my life (1)= (5)

Gift suggestions for family member in college?
So, I have to get a gift for my cousin this year (family gift exchange) and I’m not really sure what to get her.
I’m looking for some kind of off-beat, unusual, but still useful suggestions.
Info/Guidelines:
-She’s 18.
-In College (pre-dental I think, but I’m not %100 on that)
-I’m not really close with her, so nothing too personal.
-She’s pretty conservative, so nothing offensive.
-Gift cards are off limits.
-Gift must be around $10-$20
Things I’ve considered so far:
-Diversion safe
-Bacon Bandages
-Germ plush toys (bad breath, since I think she’s going into dentistry)
-Funny organizing stuff (paperclips labeled with importance level, ‘decision paper weight’)
Is there anything that you wanted/needed in college that no one thought to get you?
Do you know of a website that sells cool, unique gifts?
Do you think any of the gifts I’ve looked at are good ideas?
I’m not picky, any ideas and suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.

I love the bad breath plush doll idea! I would skip the other ideas, just because they’re only “OK” but consider visiting Victoria’s Secret, Aerie, or Old Navy for some plush bedroom slippers. Or pajama pants. These will both serve a college student well. I wouldn’t go with office supplies until she has a professional job. College students LOVE coffee drinks, try a Starbucks gift card!

She is 7.5 months old. Its toys that were bought for her at birth. Everyone that visited us in the hospital were bringing stuffed animals so it would be kind of hard to get rid of them.
TS Staff Answers:
Well that is pretty cool but I think it would be hard to find a stuffed animal in it and they will end up all over anyway. Personally I hate stuffed animals. I had to set limits on them. I allowed enough to cover the end of the bed and once there were more than that we weeded through them and took them to the community center for other children to have (after washing them). Stuffed animals are germ collectors. If you can get your child to weed some out that would be the best option.
If she is 7.5 months old it should be easy to get rid of them because she won’t even know. If family were to ask you just tell them you appreciated them greatly but don’t have the room for them all so you had to donate some. No biggie in my opinion.

Is there a law against toys in California thrift stores?
I see people on blogs and such talk about how they went to their local Salvation Army or Goodwill and found vintage toys from the 80′s, but when I go to mine there’s hardly any toys let alone a toy section. Sometimes they have a few stuffed animals, but no plastic toys. Why is this? Is there a law against plastic toys in California thrift stores for safety issues or something like that?
TS Staff Answers:
There’s no law against plastic toys in thrift stores, per se. However, there’s rather strict safety standards, in response to scares and recalls, which unfortunately means that it’s not very profitable for companies to inspect them before selling them. They still take them as donations, though, which means a lot of donated toys go straight into the garbage compactor! Considering the donations are a tax write-off, the whole thing borders on fraud.
I have a friend who works with a company called Disposal Alternatives, which tries to get thrift stores and such in California to at least recycle the toys they don’t want to sell. There’s not a lot of success so far though, stores simply prefer sending it all to the landfill even if reuse or recycling wouldn’t be any problem for them.

Carol asks…
What stores are selling the Pearls Before Swine plushies/toys/dolls/stuffed animals/WHATEVER YOU CALL THEM?
I am a HUGE fan of the comic strip Pearls Before Swine. Plush toys were recently released, and as part of a promotional stunt, were featured on the cover of the new Pearls book called Pearls Sells Out. They’re available on several sites, but I want to see them in a real life store for 3 reasons.
1. I like to see the plushies first.
2. I want to see how the fur feels/how soft they are.
3. I don’t like paying shipping.
At what stores are they being sold?
TS Staff Answers:
Try the toys section
maybe Wal-Mart or Toys R Us

Sandy asks…
Aquarium question: I’ve ran out of filter floss, can I use the fiberfill they use to stuff plush toys instead?
TS Staff Answers:
Yes you can. It clogs a little faster usually but it works well. The batting for quilting is also a good choice, it’s often easier to work with in a filter.

Preserving plush toys?
I was wondering if anyone knew how to preserve a plush toy? I plan on buying two, one for playing with and decorating my room, one for cherishing and keeping in mint condition. Over time my other stuffed toys got all wooly, dusty, smelly and ultimately crappy. How can I preserve one in mint condition?
TS Staff Answers:
You can keep it in a ziplock bag if the toy is small enough. If it’s big, you can get a case or a doll cover.
