Stuffed Animal Toy Chain Faq’s

David asks…

Anyone remember a 70′s or 80′s toy that had a monster wearing manacles who came to life when the chain broke?

I can’t remember the toy exactly and it might have been a cartoon, but I remember that the toy was a stuffed animal wearing manacles/handcuffs, and when the chain on them broke, the toy came to life, at least in the show. Any clues or ideas at all will be appreciated, this has been bothering me for months.

Donna asks…

What do you do with a dog who won’t listen ?

I’m dog-sitting the most ill mannered dog in the world. I swear he’s at the top of the stupid chain. He won’t come when he’s called, won’t sit on command, has bit me when I was giving my own dog a treat (after I already gave him one), has been trying to pee on my dog & tried to hump her tonight. He has a stuffed animal toy that all he does is hump. Yes, he is fixed. He’s a 2 year old King Charles Cavalier spaniel that’s been having seizure problems since very young so wonder if he’s got major brain damage. Am doing my best using all the training techniques that I know but it’s like talking to something that’s there physically but not mentally – it’s like he’s empty upstairs.

If anyone has any bright ideas can you let me know. I still have another week & a half with the damn thing. Thanks………

Unfortunately, it sounds as if you have a dog that hasn’t been trained by his owner. I’m also wondering if he doesn’t need medication. If he has seizures, who knows what else is going on upstairs? Does he have the seizures when he’s over excited, scared or when? That could be a big key to his behavior problems. You might try keeping the dog as entertained as possible (wear his little butt out!). Play ball, tug of war, etc. He’ll be too tired to hump too. LOL
You said you’ve been using all the training techniques, but you won’t be able to train this dog everything in the amount of time you have him. I’d start with the most basic; sit. As hard as it is, try ignoring the bad behaviors, keep him on a leash while outside and try to relax around him (hard as it may be). He may be sensing your frustrations, causing him to act out even more. Last, but not least, he may really be missing his owners. Dogs, like kids, can sometimes act out because they aren’t able to express their feelings in other ways. Hang in there! Keep in mind; this is only a moment in time. Soon, the dog will be back with his owners, and you can take a deep breath.
