Stuffed Toys Bacteria Faq’s

Helen asks…
I have a stuffed toys from a person who had contagious antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Should I throw it away?
It belonged to my late sister. She had it in a long-term care facility before she died. Some say it is okay to keep, others say it must be thrown away. It is special, but I do not want to risk my family’s health. I have many other things to remember her by, so does it need to be thrown away or can it be kept?

Just to be on the safe side…yes I’d throw them away. You say you have other things to remember her by. She would not have wanted you to become ill because of her.

Sandy asks…
Is there a way to avoid the black stuff inside bath toys?
You know the toys were you can squeeze the water out of? Almost every toy we have spews black bacteria type stuff out among the water. It’s gross. After the kids’ bath I always try to empty the toys water out so it doesn’t fester there but still, everytime there is the same junk. Any simple cleaning tips on that?
TS Staff Answers:
Please don’t use Chlorine Bleach! Chlorine is a toxic substance, and so are the by-products of Chlorine. I would recommend trying a powder type bleach (like Oxy Clean). Suck up some mixed in solution and shake. Squeeze out as much as you can and rinse. After each bath, try to squeeze out all of the water you can. You should only have to use the Oxy once a week or so. Here is a link about some of the concerns of Chlorine Bleach. Good Luck!

David asks…
GLBT: what’s your favorite type of material for toys?
I am in the market for a new insertable play toy, and was wondering what type of material most women (or guys too) prefer when being penetrated?
silicone? cyberskin/neo-skin? rubber? glass? polycarbonate? something else?
I personally like the cyberskin ones, but they’re hard to keep clean because they can get tiny pores that can trap bacteria and stuff in them..but I use condoms on my toys anyway, since I have multiple partners.
Suggestions welcome, thanks!
TS Staff Answers:
Silicone is mostly my fave- not as smelly/bad for you as jelly, PVC or rubber, not as soft and hard to-clean as jelly and cyberskin but not as hard as plastic, not as expensive as glass.
My favorite toys have always seemed to be silicone, but I *really* want to try wood- from everything I’ve heard, it’s completely in a league of its own, with the smooth, hard texture of glass without the heavy weight . . . Definitely interesting.
