Stuffed Toys Faq’s

Laura asks…
How do I keep my puppy from destroying her stuffed toys?
My puppy is in a new phase of shredding all of her stuffed toys. Anyone know a good way to stop that?
TS Staff Answers:
That’s what dog toys are for !! This behavior helps them relieve stress, tension, good for their teeth and gives them proper things to chew instead of your belongings. My dog enjoys this and I just get in the habit of restocking his toy bin every month.

Donald asks…
How do I get rid of old cigarette smell on stuffed toys?
Okay, I have a bunch of stuffed animals that I had when I was a kid. My mom was (still is) a heavy smoker, and 30 years later, all my stuffed animals smell like strong, stale cigarettes! I can’t put them in the washer, so how do I permanently get rid of the smell? These toys are of great sentimental value to me, and I really don’t want to throw them out.

Can you handwash them? Treat like fine wool, with gentle detergent, not much of it, very warm water, double rinse, press between towels to remove excess moisture, and then they should be fine to go in the dryer on air only.

Paul asks…
What to do with gently used stuffed animal toys?
We have a lot of gently used stuffed toys we gave each other while dating and people gave us after we had kids. They have just been lying around in a box.
Any suggestions?

Type your city name & “shelter” into your search engine. Contact them about a donation. I worked at a domestic violence shelter. We kept these donations in the office so that when kids arrived with their parent, they could select the one they wanted with a staff worker while the parent did the intake paper work. There were many shared toys at the shelter, but the best stuffed animals were saved so that children cold pick out one that they related to and would belong only to them. I have seen this comfort many children who arrived very scared. The “I love you” ones were very popular. — We also worked with the “Salvation Army” homeless shelter to give them our overflow to help the homeless kids adjust to staying in those large halls. They felt better having a stuffed animal to go to bed with. — There was also a children’s home that housed foster kids before being placed in homes. The stuffed animals were given out to the youngest kids. — I’d definitely say donate to children in need. What seems so small to us makes a big difference on what is one of the worst days in their life. — Some police departments take the donations to keep in a patrol car when ever they are encountering domestic calls where children are involved.
